SOLBLOMMA

SOLBLOMMA. 2025. One of the summer’s collaborative projects! A large art instalation that interacts with the sun in different ways. The initiators of this project the Eksjö artists Magnus Wassborg and Jonas Nilsson. I myself have then carried out the actual design and practical construction, after which we mounted it on the property of co creative community of Alversjö outside of Eksjö this summer. The work absorbs sunlight in different ways and uses the energy for different purposes. Large magnifying glass lenses focus solar energy to the inside of the sculpture which then creates rapid hot air currents to the top where a temperature-sensitive biomechanical device opens and closes the lids on the top depending on the temperature of the absorbed warm air inside. Solar cells charge batteries during the day which then power the lighting at night. In particular, a device made of uranium glass that shines inside the top itself and its strange fluorescent glow can only be seen shining during warm summer nights when the artwork finds it appropriate to keep the lids open. Solbloman is built from scrap metal from Alversjö. Magnus Wassborg’s more detailed thoughts can be read on his website in Swedish and English (see linked).
