A Baptism tree orderd by the Swedish Church for the church of Höreda 10 km South of Eksjö! It is made of iron rods from the ruin of an old hydroelectric plant and sawmill in the area where I live. The iron has been exposed to the elements for decades and has therefore been heavily rusted until the iron rods look like tree branches and roots which made them the obvious material of choice for this project! The large glass droplet at the top is made by a colleague of mine by the name Camilla Thor who is also a glassblower. We both work as cemetery workers for the Church of Sweden in the area. The use of baptismal trees is a relatively new tradition in the Swedish Church. Every time a child is baptized in the church during the year, they get a necklace with a glass drop with their name written on it which is hung on the tree. At the end of the year, a ceremony is held when all families with children baptized there during the year can come and collect their glass drops
